Rourkela: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Thursday called upon graduating students of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship, transforming themselves into job creators rather than job seekers. He was addressing the university’s 12th Convocation Ceremony, where hundreds of students were conferred their degrees.
In his address, the Governor said that the world is being reshaped by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, biotechnology, and space exploration. He emphasized that India has emerged as a frontrunner in this global transformation, driven by flagship initiatives such as Digital India, Startup India, and Make in India. These, he noted, have opened immense opportunities for engineers to innovate, build enterprises, and lead technological change.
Highlighting India’s position as the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, Kambhampati cited the achievements of young entrepreneurs in clean energy, healthcare technology, space research, and sustainable materials. He urged the graduating engineers to carry forward the spirit of innovation cultivated at BPUT and contribute to enterprises that serve both society and the environment.
Commending Odisha’s growing prominence as a hub for technology and innovation, the Governor pointed to recent investments in semiconductors, renewable energy, defence manufacturing, and digital infrastructure. He reminded students that they play a crucial role in shaping a Viksit Odisha that aligns with the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. True success, he said, lies not merely in wealth or professional titles but in the positive impact one creates through integrity, empathy, and service.
Kambhampati also lauded BPUT’s proactive adoption of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its focus on fostering industry collaboration, innovation cells, and incubation centres. These efforts, he said, are preparing students for leadership roles in research, development, and societal transformation.
Former NAAC Director and current Advisor at Jain University, Professor S.C. Sharma, also addressed the convocation, while BPUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Amiya Kumar Rath delivered the welcome address.
