Bhubaneswar: The newly elected Nuapada MLA Jay Dholakia celebrated his resounding victory in the by-election with a massive road show in Khariar Road today. Dholakia, son of former MLA Rajendra Dholakia, took part in the rally along with his wife and mother, accompanied by a huge crowd of party workers and supporters.
The road show culminated at the local party office, where BJP leaders, including Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, congratulated the new legislator. Dholakia credited his victory to the people of Nuapada, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and his late father Rajendra Dholakia.
Dholakia is scheduled to meet the top party leaders including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and party president Manmohan Samal in Bhubaneswar today.
Dholakia, 32, secured 1,23,869 votes (59% of total votes cast) in the November 11 bypoll. Ghasi Ram Majhi (Congress) came second with 40,121 votes, followed by BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria (38,408 votes). The remaining 11 candidates forfeited their security deposits.
The bypoll, necessitated by Rajendra Dholakia’s death on September 8, was seen as a crucial test for Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s government.
