Bhubaneswar: A Test Identification (TI) parade is scheduled for today inside Berhampur Circle Jail for 16 accused arrested in connection with the murder of lawyer and BJP leader Pitabash Panda.
According to reports, the SDJM Court has directed jail authorities and investigating officers to facilitate the identification procedure under Magistrate supervision. The TI parade will allow witnesses to identify suspects from a group of similarly appearing persons, and the proceedings will be recorded as part of the probe file.
The investigating officers have completed the necessary paperwork and coordinated with Berhampur Circle Jail authorities to arrange the TI parade as directed by the Court.
This development follows recent death threats received by the family of Pitabas Panda, with his wife Suchismita alleging that the threats mention accused Bikram Panda and pressure the family to withdraw a pending case.
It is pertinent to mention that two of the accused, identified as Kurupati Bhuyan and Chintu Pradhan, allegedly opened fire at Pitabash Panda at close range while he was at Baikunthanagar on the night of Kumar Purnima before fleeing the scene on a bike.
A case (518/25) has been registered at Baidyanathpur police station in connection with the murder.
