Jeypore (Koraput): In a major crackdown on serial thefts and break-ins, Jeypore police on Sunday arrested 19 people in connection with eight cases of dacoity and burglary reported from different parts of the subdivision.
Jeypore SDPO Partha Kashyap said the arrests were made after multiple teams tracked down suspects involved in recent incidents across Kundra, Jeypore Sadar and Jeypore town areas.
According to the SDPO, a dacoity in Kundra town a few days ago led to the arrest of four accused on Sunday, while four others linked to the same case had been nabbed earlier. Around Rs 80,000 in cash was recovered from them.
In another case under Jeypore Sadar limits, six men from Teliguda were picked up for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and disposing of them through a gold loan company. All six have been forwarded to court.
The SDPO added that six more cases—five burglaries and one theft—were registered in different parts of Jeypore town, including Kumbhar Sahi. Police recovered nearly 300 grams of silver, some gold jewellery and cash, together valued at about Rs 2.3 lakh, which the accused had converted after the thefts.
The SDPO further said that police seized 10 mobile phones, two swords, five bikes, iron rods, gold ornaments, silver items, cameras and other articles from the arrested accused.
Issuing a warning, Kashyap said police would take strict action against those involved in such crimes. He also urged people not to accept or buy stolen items, cautioning that receivers of stolen property would face legal consequences.
