Jagatsinghpur: The Jagatsinghpur district administration demolished several houses at Beheram Basti under Sadar police limits on Monday, citing the occupants as suspected Bangladeshi nationals residing on government land. The demolition drive was conducted in the presence of the magistrate and sub-collector.
The administration is treating the matter seriously and is investigating from all angles. The administration is looking into how the group arrived, who brought them to the area, and if they have any connections to organised crime.
Meanwhile, the District Collector assured strict action against anyone found guilty and confirmed that all illegal constructions on government land will be removed.
District Collector said the administration has taken the case seriously, and an investigation is underway from all angles. He said that officials are examining how the group arrived, who brought them to the area and whether they have any links to organised crime. He added that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
The Collector confirmed plans to remove all illegal constructions on government land, announcing a special team has been formed to oversee the eviction process, with the sub-collector leading efforts as needed.
It is pertinent to mention that the police conducted a raid at Beheram slum on Sunday night following a tip-off about the presence of Bangladeshis. The raid led to a clash between the locals and police, resulting in injuries to three police personnel. Later, with the deployment of three platoons of force, the police conducted another raid and detained two persons, while around 10-12 people managed to escape. Police have seized a gun, 10-12 knives, cutters, and shovels from the house where they were staying.
