Bhubaneswar: The special crime unit (SCU) of the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Monday seized 400 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs 40 lakh and arrested one person in connection with the case.
The arrested person has been identified as Sheikh Akbar, a resident under Sahadevkhunta police station in Balasore district. The SCU is now on the lookout for another accused, Sheikh Sadik, who is believed to be involved in the same drug network.
“The SCU has seized 400 grams of brown sugar, and one key supplier, Sheikh Akbar, a resident of Balasore, has been arrested. We have also identified another key member of the network, Sheikh Sadik, and our teams are actively searching for him. We are committed to dismantling the entire drug network, not only in Bhubaneswar but also across Odisha and other linked locations,” said Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh while speaking to reporters.
He further added, “Once Sheikh Sadik is apprehended, the network will lose significant strength, which will help curb the supply of drugs in cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that those involved are brought to justice.”
Police officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the origins and distribution channels of the seized narcotics. The SCU is also coordinating with other districts to identify and apprehend additional suspects connected to the network.
