Bargarh: The wait is over for the Dhanu Yatra enthusiasts in Bargarh as the artist selection process for the upcoming festival has been completed. After three days of rigorous auditions, 11 prominent characters, including the iconic role of Kansa, have been cast.
According to reports, Sushil Meher from Chichinda village in Bargarh’s Bheden block has been selected to play the role of Kansa. This is Meher’s first time participating in the Bargarh Dhanu Yatra, and he has previously played roles like Ravana and Jarasandha in various stage productions.
The selected artists include Prabhas Kumar Tripathy as Mustik, Himanshu Sahu as Chanur, Arttatrana Mohapatra as Ugrasen, Kamaraj Bhoi as Narada, Manoj Sahu as Basudev, Jagannath Sahu as Akrur, Jagabandhu Mahaling as Sartaki, Hemant Pradhan as Senapati, Gulab Chandra Dash as Mahamantri, and Mugdha Dash as Devaki.
The 11-day Dhanu Yatra festival is scheduled to begin on December 24 and will conclude on January 3. The largest open-air theatre is expected to draw large crowds this year.
The selection of Sushil Meher as Kansa has generated excitement among the people of Bargarh, who are looking forward to witnessing his portrayal of the iconic character.
