Bhubaneswar: The picturesque hill town of G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district is reeling under a severe cold wave, with the mercury plummeting to a bone-chilling 5.6°C on Tuesday morning. This is the lowest temperature recorded in the state, making G Udayagiri the coldest place in Odisha.
The biting cold has brought life to a standstill, with people struggling to venture out of their homes. Daily wage labourers are finding it tough to make ends meet, while the elderly and children are bearing the brunt of the harsh weather.
The district administration is facing demands to open shelters for the homeless and distribute blankets to the needy. Social organisations and activists are urging the authorities to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of the poor and vulnerable sections of society.
According to forecasts, the cold wave is expected to intensify in the coming days, making it essential for the authorities to take proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the severe weather conditions.
