Balasore: Soro police on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with a burglary at the Soro Civil Court Complex, recovering valuables including gold and silver ornaments, cash, and a firearm.

The arrested accused have been identified as Bhabani Shankar Mahal alias Kathi (28), Harapriya Mahal (29), Kamalakanta Rana alias Kamala (57), Niranjan Rana (57), and Damodar Bej (59)—all residents of Balasore.

According to police, the incident occurred during the intervening night of November 2–3, 2025. In the early hours of November 3, around 1 am, Manas Ranjan Behera, Deputy Administrator-cum-Clerk in Charge of the Store Room at Soro Civil Complex, lodged a written complaint.

Based on the complaint, Soro PS Case No. 901 dated 03.11.2025 under Sections 331(4)/305(a) of the BNS was registered and investigation was taken up.

During the probe, police apprehended the five accused and carried out multiple recoveries. Seized items include gold ornaments, silver ornaments, a pistol with 25 rounds of live ammunition, Rs 18,000 in cash, and a motorcycle.

“A burglary took place at the Soro Civil Court Complex on the night of November 2, during which valuable items were stolen. We have arrested five accused in connection with the case. Most of the stolen property—including gold, silver, cash, and a firearm—has been recovered. Some items that had already been sold were traced and recovered as well. Efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the crime,” said Balasore Sadar SDPO Subhransu Sekhar Nayak while speaking to reporters.

The SDPO added that further investigation is in progress to identify and apprehend additional suspects linked to the burglary.
