Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today urged the state police to boost conviction rates, identify culprits promptly, and maintain strict law and order across the state.
Speaking at the concluding session of a two-day state-level conference of District Collectors and Superintendents of Police at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Center here, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of coordination between police and district administration to ensure that development and security go hand in hand.
He directed the police officials to focus on eight key areas: increasing conviction rates and setting up Investigation and Prosecution wings where needed, registering all complaints and taking action against erring officers, regular police station visits by Superintendents, teamwork between Collectors and police, zero tolerance for corruption, training officers on key laws including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, and leveraging technology to stay ahead of criminals.
CM Majhi expressed satisfaction over the performance of the Odisha Police, highlighting their success in solving sensitive cases promptly. He noted that public-friendly service and security remain a top priority, emphasizing the need for peace and good governance to attract investment and realize the vision of a developed Odisha.
The Chief Minister also outlined goals to make Odisha free of Naxals by 2026, curb illegal drugs, suppress land mafias and economic crimes, monitor accident-prone areas, tackle speeding and drunk driving, and coordinate with Coastal Security, the Coast Guard, and the Navy to prevent infiltration.
Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that the state police have undergone extensive modernisation since the new government took charge. The Chief Minister has sanctioned additional funds for increasing manpower, acquiring necessary equipment, and strengthening institutions, which has enabled the Odisha Police to successfully provide security to the public.
Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, added that the Chief Minister promptly approves proposals from the Home Department to strengthen the police. He noted that District Collectors and Superintendents of Police are “two sides of the same coin” and serve as the eyes and ears of the government, making coordination essential.
In his welcome address, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania discussed strengthening security arrangements, controlling crime, and expanding data-based surveillance systems. Advising the Superintendents of Police, DGP emphasised that concerted efforts, data sharing, and ground-level monitoring will further ensure law and order.
The event was attended by Chief Minister’s Advisor Prakash Mishra, Odisha Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, and senior officials of the state police and administration.
