Bhubaneswar: A man from Darjeeling was arrested on Sunday after allegedly attacking his wife with a sharp weapon on a busy road in Bhubaneswar, leaving her critically injured. Police apprehended him while he was attempting to flee the scene.
The accused, identified as Tinku Gurung, and the injured woman, also a native of Darjeeling, suffered severe injuries to her neck. She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to reports, the couple had been residing in Bhubaneswar for their business. The victim reportedly runs a momo stall in the city, while the accused works as a chef at a local hotel. Earlier in the day, an argument between them escalated, leading to the assault.
Witnesses alerted the police, prompting the Chandrasekharpur Police to launch a chase and arrest the accused near the Master Canteen area.
While being taken into custody, the accused cited emotional distress and alleged infidelity as the motive behind the attack.
“I loved her and did everything for her, but she betrayed me. I found out she was involved with others. This hurt me and tarnished our reputation,” he told reporters.
Further investigation is underway.
