Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area has formed over the Comorin region and southwest Bay of Bengal, while another system near the Strait of Malacca over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining south Andaman Sea is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the South Bay of Bengal by November 27.
According to the morning bulletin of the India Meteorological Department, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area led to the formation of a low-pressure area near Sri Lanka at 5:30 am today. This system is likely to intensify over the next 24 hours.
On the other hand, the well-marked low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining south Andaman Sea is set to intensify into a depression today. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 28.
However, no warning has been issued for Odisha, and the potential cyclone is not expected to have any impact on the state.
