Bhubaneswar: An Odia girl adopted by a US couple, has returned to India, bidding farewell to her luxury life in America. Sejal John, also known as Puja had previously alleged on social media that her adoptive parents were torturing her and forcing her to convert to Christianity, claiming her life was in danger in the US.
However, upon her return to Odisha, Puja revealed that her statements were false, and she had actually wanted to reunite with her boyfriend, Amar, in Balasore. “I want to live with Amar, whom I love since my school days. I didn’t do well in America, so I told a lie to return to Odisha,” Puja said.
Puja expressed gratitude towards her adoptive mother, stating she was affectionate and loving, and had never tortured her. “My mother has never tortured me in any way. I don’t want her to get in trouble for me,” she added.
Puja’s case had garnered attention from officials, who contacted the State Adoption Resource Agency and Central Adoption Resource Authority after seeing her social media post. The Odisha government had also been involved, with Chief Minister Mohan Majhi being approached for help in bringing Puja back to India.
