Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna on Thursday sentenced retired Junior Accountant Ajit Kumar Mishra to three years of simple imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe from a consumer.
Mishra, who retired from the office of the SDO, Electrical Sub-Division, Bhawanipatna, was also fined ₹20,000 by the Special Judge, Vigilance.
Mishra had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 27 dated 02.10.2019 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was accused of demanding and receiving ₹5,000 from a consumer to reduce the latter’s electricity bill amount.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority seeking stoppage of Mishra’s pension, as per rules governing such cases.
