Puri: The iconic Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri is set to undergo a heritage illumination makeover with high-power LED lights under the “Heritage Illumination Project”.

The project aims to highlight the temple’s architectural beauty and intricate carvings at night, enhancing the visitor experience. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) are overseeing the project, which will illuminate the main structure, surrounding shrines, and all four main entrances.

The temple will be visible from a distance of about 10 kilometers, making it a breathtaking sight for pilgrims. The ASI has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project, and an allocation of Rs 17.12 crore has been made. The temple administration will request the government to utilise these funds under the ABADHA (Augmentation of Basic Amenities & Development of Heritage and Architecture) scheme.

The DPR was discussed in the last temple management committee meeting and has been approved. The illumination plan includes lighting up the Bhog Mandap, Jagmohan, Natamandap, sanctum sanctorum, Meghanada prachira, surrounding temples, Ananda Bazaar, and Kurumabedha.

Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Chief Administrator, SJTA
