Bhubaneswar: A police constable from Telkoi police station in Keonjhar district has been arrested for his alleged involvement with cattle smugglers. Constable Gourahari Patra was nabbed by a police team from his own station for allegedly acting as an informer for the smugglers.
Patra was accused of passing on information about police movements and actions, enabling the smugglers to evade capture on multiple occasions. The police had been tracking his activities and monitoring his mobile phone based on inputs from the intelligence unit.
The arrest was made on Thursday when a police team was preparing to raid a cattle smuggling truck on a national highway connecting West Bengal. Patra was caught passing on information, leading to his arrest and subsequent forwarding to court.
