Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) Deputy Chief Administrator and Puri Collector, Dibya Jyoti Parida, on Saturday urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading misinformation following a viral video by social media influencer and journalist Shubhankar Mishra, who made controversial remarks about the Jagannath Temple.
“The subcommittee has discussed this issue. In cases where individuals circulate incorrect information about Jagannath culture, we will take strict action as planned. I urge everyone to consult before making any statements and refrain from spreading false information anywhere,” said Collector Parida while addressing the media.
The remarks came after Mishra’s video went viral, in which he claimed that couples visiting the Jagannath Temple together before marriage would never have a successful relationship. He further alleged that such couples would be unable to marry because the temple is under the ‘curse’ of Goddess Radharani.
According to Mishra, the curse originated from an incident in which Radharani, on her way to see Lord Krishna in the form of Lord Jagannath, was stopped by temple servitors who told her that the Lord’s consort could not enter the sanctum. Based on this account, Mishra claimed that Radharani became angry and cursed the temple.
