Berhampur: In a major crackdown on mobile theft, Bada Bazar police on Saturday arrested four persons and recovered more than 300 smartphones from a house in Srikhetra Vihar of Berhampur.
According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M, the action was taken following a tip-off about stolen mobile phones being stored at the residence.
“During the raid, four persons were found in possession of over 300 smartphones, which were seized from a suitcase. The accused have claimed that they were purchasing the phones with the intention of selling them in other states. The authenticity of this claim is being verified. A case has been registered, and the accused will be forwarded to court soon,” the SP told reporters.
Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether the phones were stolen locally or sourced from other regions.
