Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has identified 51 Bangladeshi nationals across several districts since coming to power, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly on Monday. Of them, 49 have already been deported to Bangladesh after completion of legal formalities.
According to the Chief Minister’s written reply to a question raised by BJD MLA from Bhograi, Goutam Buddha Das, the deported individuals were traced from Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (24), Cuttack Urban Police District (15), Ganjam (6), Kandhamal (3) and Koraput (1).
Two others — one each from Ganjam and Kandhamal — were found to have fraudulently obtained Indian passports using fake documents. Separate cases have been registered against them, and both have been produced before the court.
Majhi added that the process of identifying illegal infiltrators is an ongoing exercise and is being carried out regularly across the state.
