Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 3,398 rape cases and 1,855 murders in the last 16 months, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the assembly on Monday.
Replying to a question by Rajgangpur MLA CS Raazen Ekka, the Chief Minister said that between June 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, the state recorded 1,779 cases of rape on minors, 116 gang rape cases, and 856 cases of female murders.
Among districts, Mayurbhanj reported the highest number of gang rape cases at 12, followed by Keonjhar with 10. Mayurbhanj also topped the list for minor rape cases with 131, while Keonjhar logged 115 during the same period.
CM Majhi stated that the police registered 297 dowry-related homicides and 49 dowry-related suicides. The period also saw 6,279 dowry torture cases and 7,173 non-dowry torture cases.
The Chief Minister said the government is taking steps to strengthen law enforcement mechanisms, improve policing at the district level, and enhance safety measures for women and children.
