Bhubaneswar: The Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team scripted history by defeating Nepal in a nail-biting final to clinch the inaugural Women’s Blind T20 World Cup held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Among the world champions were four players from Odisha — Phula Soren of Balasore, and Parbati Marndi, Yamuna Rani Tudu, and Basanti Hansda from Mayurbhanj — who played pivotal roles in the team’s triumph.
On Monday, the players returned home to a warm reception and were felicitated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at his official residence. As a mark of recognition, the Chief Minister presented each of the four Odisha players with a cash award of ₹11 lakh through cheques.
Congratulating the team for their remarkable achievement, Majhi said, “With your dedication and perseverance, you have brought glory to both the country and the state through your excellence in sports. You have become an inspiration for every Odia.” He encouraged the players to continue their winning momentum with confidence and determination.
Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Director Dr. Yedula Vijay, team coach Debashish Jena, and other senior officials were also present during the felicitation ceremony.
The historic victory and the state government’s recognition stand as a proud moment for Odisha, highlighting its growing contribution to the nation’s sporting achievements.
