Bhubaneswar: Minister for Labour and Employees’ State Insurance, Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia, responding to a question in the Odisha Assembly regarding measures to eradicate child labour in the state, informed that the state government has been implementing a State Action Plan, involving nine departments, to combat child labour.
The Minister’s reply came in response to a petition filed by MLA Tankadhar Tripathy.
According to the Minister, the State Action plan includes regular inspections and rescue operations, as well as awareness programs and training for officials.
The Minister further stated that the last survey on child labour was conducted in 1997, which identified 2,15,222 child labourers. The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, mandates district-level inspections to identify and rescue child labourers.
The minister assured that the government is committed to eradicating child labour and is taking necessary steps to achieve this goal.
