Bhubaneswar: Determination of electricity tariff is carried out by the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) in accordance with section-61 to 65 of the Electricity Act, 2003, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo stated in the State Assembly on Wednesday.
Responding to a query by MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak on specific steps taken during the ongoing power Tariff determination exercise for Financial Year 2026-27 to protect the interests of domestic, agricultural, and small consumers in Odisha, especially in view of the repeated proposals for Tariff Hikes by distribution companies, Deo said the OERC is currently undertaking a prudence check of the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) proposals of power utilities and will determine the tariff for FY 2026-27 after considering public opinions.
The Deputy CM, however, assured that domestic, agricultural, and small consumers are cross-subsidised, which helps keep their tariffs low.
