Riamal: Two persons were killed, including a 70-year-old man, after being attacked by a wild tusker in Deogarh district’s Riamal area on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred in Juradanga village under the Riamal Forest Section in Deogarh district.
The deceased have been identified as Kunja Dehuri (70) and Ranjita Behera (35), wife of Dillip Behera.
Ranjita hailed from a village under Riamal Forest Range in Deogarh Forest Division, while the deceased elderly man belonged to a village under Chhendipada Forest Range in adjoining Angul Forest Division.
According to reports, Ranjita was attacked by a tusker while she was going to pluck flowers around 6:30 am on Thursday. Locals rescued her. She was soon rushed to Chhendipada Health Centre and later shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment. She, however, succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Shortly after, Kunja (70) was confronted with the same tusker while she was going to attend nature’s call and died on the spot. The incident has sparked tension in the area.
