No More Political Protection For Criminals: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi today said that there will be no more political protection for criminals in the state. He stated that the police have been given a free hand to take action against criminals, and those who are guilty will face the law.

Majhi made the statement during a discussion on the demand for grants of the Home Department. He claimed that the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated over the past 5-10 years, with the state ranking first in the country in violence against women. He alleged that police stations were being used as party offices of political parties, and conspiracies were being hatched to kill influential ministers.

However, Majhi asserted that the law and order situation has improved under the current government. He cited the smooth conduct of by-elections in Naxal-prone Nuapada as an example. He also highlighted the swift action taken in POCSO cases, with convictions secured in 37 days.

Majhi announced that 15,326 new police posts have been created, and the process for 3,557 new appointments is underway.
