Bhubaneswar: The Balasore district administration has taken swift action against two teachers of Begunia Government UG UP School for chaining a Class IV student, Malay Singh, to a bed in the school hostel. Headmaster Ragunath Bugudai and Teacher Jatin Parida have been suspended for their inhumane actions.
The incident came to light after a shocking video showing the student chained to a bed went viral on social media. The district administration formed an investigation committee comprising Sub-Collector Madhusmita Samantray, District Welfare Officer, and Block Education Officer Satya Narayan Bhuyan, which submitted a report to the District Education Officer.
District Collector Suryabanshi Mayur Bikash directed the District Education Officer to investigate the incident and submit a report. The probe team, led by the Nilagiri Deputy Collector, examined the hostel room and interacted with school authorities, hostel staff, and the boy’s parents to establish who restrained the child and why such an extreme measure was taken in a campus officially declared a “No Punishment Zone”.
Block Education Officer Satya Narayan Bhuyan confirmed the suspension of the two teachers, stating that the administration has taken concrete action against them. The incident has sparked outrage and concern among locals, highlighting the need for stricter measures to ensure student safety and well-being in schools.
