Bhubaneswar: The amount donated by Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Prof. K. Laxmi Bai will be established as a corpus fund, the interest from which will be utilised for research in Gynaecological malignancy, providing community oncology services to the poor and downtrodden, and strengthening preventive oncology initiatives, announced AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
To ensure optimal and transparent utilisation of the corpus, an Expert Supervisory Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Executive Director.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar celebrated Laxmi Bai’s centenary birthday. Prof. Laxmi Bai donated Rs 3.4 crore of her self-earned savings to the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of the National Institute. Having received her medical degree in 1945 and served the nation selflessly until retiring from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur in 1986, Prof. Laxmi Bai’s contribution reflects her unwavering faith in the capabilities, ethics, and service commitment of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Her belief in the Institute’s mission of delivering quality healthcare to all, especially the underserved, stands as a profound testament to AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s trusted brand in the field of medical science.
Conveying gratitude on behalf of the entire AIIMS fraternity and the people of Odisha, Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas expressed heartfelt appreciation for this noble act. “Prof. K. Laxmi Bai’s extraordinary gesture is not only a blessing but a powerful acknowledgment of AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s continual efforts in high-quality patient care, medical education, and advanced research,” said Dr. Biswas.
