Ghatagaon/ Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is set to visit his home district of Keonjhar on Sunday, carrying with him an ambitious vision for the holistic transformation of Maa Tarini Peetha — the spiritual heart of Keonjhar and one of Odisha’s most revered shrines.
The visit is being hailed as historic, as it will mark the formal launch of an integrated development project worth over ₹312 crore, aimed at reshaping the temple complex into a world-class pilgrimage destination.
Under the Chief Minister’s direct leadership, the government has approved a comprehensive redevelopment plan covering nearly 60 acres surrounding the temple. The project includes a wide array of modern facilities designed to enhance the comfort, safety and spiritual experience of devotees.
Key components include a 216-bed pilgrim rest house, a prasad mandap capable of accommodating 500 devotees simultaneously, a coconut storage facility, a state-of-the-art interpretation centre showcasing the temple’s history and cultural significance, a pilgrim facilitation centre, a food court, a watch tower, ample parking spaces, improved water supply, electricity and decorative lighting, drainage systems, a new boundary wall, an advanced light-and-sound system, and an external queue management system for smooth darshan.
Recognising the deep spiritual value of water bodies, the project also provides for the redevelopment of multiple ponds in and around the temple complex, including the main pond, the smaller ponds, and the one near the children’s play area.
As part of the infrastructure upgrade, a 12-metre-wide road will link the temple directly to the National Highway and Harichandanpur. Internal roads within the complex will be modernised, and traffic management will be strengthened to improve visitor flow.
Anticipation is high across Keonjhar, where locals view the Chief Minister’s visit as a moment of pride and a sign of accelerated development for the district.
Keonjhar, long a major contributor to Odisha’s economy, now sees hope for renewed progress with its own son at the helm.
Many residents believe tomorrow’s events will usher in a transformative era for Maa Tarini Peetha and the district as a whole.
