Bhubaneswar: The Police Commissionerate of Bhubaneswar–Cuttack on Sunday issued a traffic advisory ahead of the T20 cricket match between India and South Africa at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, on December 9, 2025. The players’ practice session is scheduled for December 8, 2025.
Heavy traffic is expected on all routes leading to the stadium due to team movement and match-related activities. Commuters are advised to plan their travel and follow traffic personnel instructions.
In view of security concerns for players and officials, and to ensure better regulation of traffic flow in the interest of the general public, by virtue of the powers conferred on me under Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003 (Odisha Act 8 of 2007) and in pursuance of Regulation 36 of the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008, the following restrictions are imposed:
Traffic Restrictions
To ensure security for players and officials and smooth traffic flow, the following restrictions will be in place:
- December 8, 2025: 12 noon – 9 pm (practice session)
- December 9, 2025: 8 am until the end of the match or crowd dispersal
Key Route Management:
- Vehicles coming from the Mata Matha side shall park at the Lower Baliyatra Ground. Pass-holder vehicles shall take a left turn at the Bamboo Depot and park at the Upper Baliyatra Ground.
- Vehicles coming from Howrah Motor Chhak and Mani Sahoo Chhak shall not be allowed towards Madhusudan Statue from Grinnar Hotel Chhak. They shall use the Mahanadi Ring Road via Old Law Hostel-gada and park at the Lower Baliyatra Ground.
- Except for pass-holder vehicles, no other vehicles shall be allowed towards Barabati Stadium from Biju Pattanaik Chhak or Chandi Chhak. Such vehicles shall proceed via Cantonment PS Chhak and park at the Lower Baliyatra Ground.
- No vehicles shall be allowed towards Baliyatra Ground via Killa Fort from Ananda Bhawan Chhak. They shall proceed via Cantonment PS Chhak and park at the Lower Baliyatra Ground.
- Except for pass-holder vehicles, no other vehicles shall be allowed towards Madhusudan Statue via Hanuman Mandir Chhak when approaching from Samaj Office Chhak.
- Odisha Cricket Academy (OCA) Ground pass-holder vehicles shall proceed towards YMCA Crossing or Lions Eye Hospital and thereafter park at the OCA Cricket Academy Ground.
- Vehicles coming from the Reserve Police Line shall not be allowed to enter Barabati Stadium through Odisha Police Association (OPA) Chhak.
- Except for pass-holder vehicles, no vehicles shall be allowed towards Barabati Stadium from Madhusudan Statue Chhak.
- Except for pass-holder vehicles, no vehicles shall be allowed towards Barabati Stadium from Lions Eye Hospital Chhak via Kill Khana Road. These vehicles shall use the Ring Road and park at the Lower Baliyatra Ground.
- Movement of heavy vehicles shall be strictly prohibited on the Mahanadi and Kathajodi Ring Roads, as well as inside city limits, from 8 am to 2 am.
- Due to the players’ practice session on December 8, 2025, the movement of heavy vehicles shall remain completely restricted on the Mahanadi Ring Road from Chahata Chhak and Sikharpur Chhak towards Bamboo Depot, from 12 noon to 10 pm.
Parking Details:
- Upper Baliyatra Ground: VIPs
- Lower Baliyatra Ground: General spectators
- OCA Cricket Academy Ground: Members of OCA and dignitaries
- Horse Gate (triangular space): TV crew/pass holders
- OCA Club & Xavier’s School Parking: VIPs/dignitaries (pass holders)
These restrictions shall not apply to emergency vehicles (fire, ambulance, police, and essential goods vehicles).
“Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and take alternate routes where possible to avoid inconvenience. For smooth traffic management during this period, cooperation from the general public is solicited,” the press release read.
