Bhubaneswar: A cold wave has gripped Odisha, with the temperature dropping 5-7 degrees Celsius below normal in some areas. The state’s temperature has plummeted to 3°C in the past 24 hours, marking the first time this season. The cold conditions are expected to persist for the next two weeks.
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Uma Shankar Das, a cold wave is expected to grip Odisha for the next two weeks, with possibilities of cold wave conditions prevailing in both weeks.
“Cold wave forecast issued for the next two weeks, according to the extended range forecast. Cold wave possibility in both weeks”, read his post on X handle.
According to IMD, the temperature plummeted to 3.5°C in Semiliguda on Thursday, marking the lowest temperature this winter.
The temperature in G Udayagiri had also dipped to 4°C, making it the coldest night in the region. The IMD reported that 16 cities in Odisha have recorded a temperature of 10°C or below.
Going by the IMD data on December 12, Phulbani recorded a low of 5.2°C, followed by Chipilima at 6.1°C, Rourkela at 6.6°C, and Jharsuguda at 6.8°C. Daringbadi has recorded a temperature of 7°C, while Bhawanipatna has dropped to 8°C.
