Deogarh: A 12-hour bandh by Zilla Mahila Ekata Mancha and Yuva Ekata Manch disrupted normal life in Deogarh district as agitators staged protests demanding round-the-clock healthcare services at the old district hospital.
According to reports, the outfits have called for the shutdown, with supporters gathering at various locations across the city. The protesters have sought the availability of 24-hour health services at the old hospital, which currently has only one doctor available for four hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.
The bandh has seen the closure of schools, colleges, businesses, and markets, with essential services like ambulances and exam-related activities exempted. Various organisations have extended their support to the protest.
The protesters have been staging a sit-in protest outside the old hospital, but police have reportedly tried to disperse them. Some protesters allegedly attacked the vehicle of the Sub-Collector. Moreover, MLA Romanch Ranjan Biswal was detained while participating in the protest.
