Malkangiri: In a shocking and inhuman incident, a minor girl from the ‘Koya’ tribe of MV-3 village, located on the outskirts of the district headquarters under Malkangiri Model Police limits, was raped on December 5 while her parents were away.
The village had earlier received families who fled Naxal threats, including the Madkami couple, who are the parents of the victim.
According to Gangi Madkami, the mother of the girl, the accused, Bindu Barai of MV-43 village, entered their house during their absence and assaulted their minor daughter. Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing her screams, but Barai managed to flee. The girl could not inform anyone immediately, as she was threatened by the accused. Gangi said she only learned of the incident a few days later when she asked her inconsolable daughter.
Gangi lodged a complaint with Malkangiri Model Police Station on December 17, and the accused was arrested the following day. She has demanded the death penalty for the perpetrator.
Speaking to the media, Malkangiri IIC Rigan Kindo confirmed the arrest of the accused on December 18. He added that the medical examination of the girl had been conducted and that the minor is now at home. The accused has been booked under the POCSO Act, 2012, and Sections 65(I) and 64(2)(k) of BNS.
Meanwhile, Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla visited MV-3 village, met the victim’s parents, and consoled them.
