Angul: A tragic incident was reported from Asanabani village under Kantabania police station limits in Dhenkanal district on Monday morning, where a woman and her two sons lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased have been identified as Golap Sahu (52) and her sons Pintu Sahu (30) and Litu Sahu (24), all residents of the village.
According to preliminary information, the mother and her two sons had slept together in a small room on Sunday night. To protect themselves from the cold, they reportedly lit coal inside the room before going to sleep.
On Monday morning, the two sons were found unconscious, while their mother also fell seriously ill shortly thereafter. All three were rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared them dead during treatment.
Following the incident, Angul Town police registered three separate cases of unnatural death. Hindol Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) S.K. Nanda reached the Angul District Headquarters Hospital and initiated an investigation into the matter. Police teams have also visited Asanabani village to examine the spot and gather further evidence.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that the deaths may have occurred due to suffocation caused by coal smoke inside the closed room. However, officials have stated that the definitive cause will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination reports are received.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
