Balasore: Police in Balasore district foiled a planned dacoity and arrested nine persons, including two minors, after conducting a raid at a secluded location near the Balasore railway station. During the operation, police recovered 13 stolen motorcycles and 17 mobile phones from different police station limits in the district.
According to police, the accused were apprehended while allegedly planning criminal activities inside an abandoned house near the goods shed behind Balasore railway station, under the jurisdiction of Sahadevkhunta police station. The gang, comprising eight to nine members, was reportedly plotting to commit dacoity by threatening passengers with deadly weapons as they disembarked from trains and buses.
Disclosing details at a press conference, DSP Manisha Saugun said that timely intelligence inputs led to the successful raid, preventing a major crime. Among the nine arrested, two were found to be minors.
The arrested accused have been identified as Dhiraj Behera of the Patrapada area under Chandipur police station limits; Saruju Khan from the Town police station area; and Sk Rafiq, Sk Kalim, Sushant Jena, Sanjay Das, and Ashok Das from areas under Sadar police station limits.
During the raid, police seized 17 mobile phones, 13 motorcycles, and two sharp weapons, identified as Telenga Katuari, from the possession of the accused.
A case has been registered at Sahadevkhunta police station under Case No. 499/25, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of the accused in other criminal cases and to trace additional stolen property, police said.
