Bhubaneswar: The world’s largest open-air theatrical festival, ‘Dhanu Jatra’, kicked off in Bargarh on Wednesday, turning the entire town into a sprawling stage for mythological performances.
Festivities commenced with a lively cultural parade starting from Gandhi Chowk and proceeding to the Samaleswari Temple, culminating in the formal establishment of demon king Kansa’s court at Hatapada. This grand setup has breathed life into Bargarh’s vast open-air arena, paving the way for an 11-day immersion in stories drawn from Lord Krishna’s legendary exploits.
Opening day highlights included the staged wedding of Devaki and Vasudeva, swiftly followed by Kansa’s dramatic overthrow of King Ugrasena to claim the throne and initiate his tyrannical reign.
The atmosphere across Bargarh is electric with excitement, drawing massive crowds of visitors from various parts of Odisha and beyond to experience this iconic event.
From bustling streets and markets to dedicated performance areas, the town pulses with vibrant energy, showcasing the deep cultural heritage and dramatic splendor that make Dhanu Jatra a timeless attraction.
