Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for paying tributes to legendary Odia freedom fighter and social activist Parvati Giri during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, calling the gesture a moment of pride for the entire state.

Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister for remembering and honouring Parvati Giri ahead of her birth centenary in January 2026. He described her as one of Odisha’s most revered freedom fighters who dedicated her life to the service of the poor, marginalised and tribal communities.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for paying tributes to Parvati Giri, one of Odisha’s great freedom fighters who devoted her entire life to the welfare of the underprivileged, through today’s Mann Ki Baat programme. Remembering the contributions of this ‘Agnikanya’ of Odisha is a matter of pride for the entire state,” CM Majhi wrote.

During the 129th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi highlighted Parvati Giri’s role in the freedom struggle, noting that she joined the Quit India Movement at the young age of 16. He also underlined her lifelong commitment to social service after Independence, particularly her work in tribal welfare and the establishment of several orphanages.

Announcing that Parvati Giri’s birth centenary would be observed in January 2026, the Prime Minister described her life as a source of inspiration for future generations and paid homage to her contribution to the nation.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the importance of remembering unsung heroes from across the country who played a vital role in India’s freedom movement but did not receive due recognition. He urged citizens to pass on the legacy of such freedom fighters to the next generation.

CM Majhi echoed these sentiments, stating that Parvati Giri’s sacrifice and service continue to inspire Odisha and the nation, and that the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment reflects national recognition of Odisha’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
