Jharsuguda: Locals staged a protest outside the main gate of Rungta Sons Private Limited’s Jharsuguda Steel Plant at Marakuta village on Monday following the alleged death of a company worker.
The demonstrators demanded immediate compensation for the family of the deceased and an explanation from the company.
According to reports, the worker, employed at Rungta Sons Private Limited, was admitted to a private hospital at around 9:30 am after reportedly feeling unwell at the workplace. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed and the company authorities have not released any official statement regarding the incident.
Angered by the incident, residents gathered at the plant’s main gate and staged the protest, raising slogans and demanding accountability.
On being informed, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter. Unrest continues in the area, and the protest was ongoing till the time of filing this report.
