Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Fire and Emergency Services Department has announced heightened safety measures for New Year 2026 in Puri, with 100 fire personnel and 300 lifeguards set to be deployed, Chief Fire Officer Ramesh Chandra Majhi said on Tuesday.
According to Majhi, personnel from the Puri fire stations, along with additional firefighters from outside the district, will be on duty. Three quick response units, a command vehicle, and two firefighting bikes will also be deployed to manage the expected rush at Puri and the Puri Sea Beach.
“At the beach, 90 lifeguards are already on alert, supplemented by 300 private lifeguards to ensure the safety of visitors. Inside the Jagannath Temple premises, first aid teams will be stationed to assist devotees during the celebrations,” Majhi told reporters.
He added that these measures aim to ensure a safe and incident-free New Year for devotees and tourists visiting Puri.
