Bhubaneswar: A gruesome incident occurred on the river embankment road near Sriram Sahi in Cuttack’s 42 Mouza area, leaving a motorcycle rider and his aunt critically injured.

The victims, identified as Debi Kalyan Acharya and Ashalata Acharya, were travelling on a bike when they came into contact with a manja string hanging across the road.

As per reports, the string, used for kite flying, struck Debi Kalyan’s neck, causing a deep cut, while his aunt also suffered a neck injury. The duo was rushed to a nearby hospital before Debi Kalyan was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Locals are demanding stricter action against the sale of manja strings and better enforcement of safety measures to prevent such incidents.

The police have been urged to take cognisance of the matter.
