Sambalpur: Police raided the Upahar Palace hotel and busted a gambling ring, arresting 9 people and seizing lakhs of rupees in Sambalpur city. Acting on a tip, Dhanupali police, led by IIC Aditya Mahakud, stormed the hotel’s room 105, where a gambling session was underway.
The accused, all from Sambalpur, had scattered cash in the room. The seized amount is being counted. Some of the arrested have previous gambling offenses. The hotel owner’s involvement is under investigation
SDPO Tofan Bag said that on the orders of the Superintendent of Police (SP), a team led by IIC Aditya Mahakud of Dhanupali police station raided the Upahar Palace. Gambling was underway in room number 105, with money scattered inside.
Cash worth lakhs of rupees was seized, and the exact amount will be known after counting. Nine accused, all from the Sambalpur area, were detained. Some had previous gambling offenses. The involvement of hotel owner Gopakrushna Samantray is under investigation, Bag added.
