Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance Department has arrested Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and a Junior Engineer (JE) of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation, Udala Sub-Division, Mayurbhanj, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a contractor.

The contractor had completed projects worth Rs 25 lakh, but the engineers, AEE Harekrushna Sing and (JE) Subrat Mohanty, had withheld bills of about Rs 5 lakh and demanded a 4.5% bribe.

The vigilance team trapped the duo while they were taking the bribe amount, and the entire Rs 60,000 has been recovered and seized.

Searches are underway at multiple locations of the accused engineers as part of the investigation. A case has been registered against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
