Bhubaneswar: A severe cold wave has gripped Odisha, with 24 places recording night temperatures below 10°C today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Going by IMD data, G Udayagiri has recorded the lowest temperature at 2.5°C, followed by Semiliguda at 3.2°C and Phulbani at 5°C.
Importantly, Bhubaneswar, the capital city, recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4°C, matching a 74-year-old record low for January 8.
Other places experiencing extremely low temperatures include Phulbani (5°C), Rourkela (5.4°C), Jharsuguda (5.8°C), and Daringbadi (6°C).
Besides, Bhawanipatna and Nabarangapur experienced chilly nights, with temperatures settling at 7°C each.
Kirei was quite chilly at 7.2°C, while nearby Chiplima also experienced a cold at 7.5°C. Angul’s temperature hovered around 7.8°C, making it a bit nippy. Keonjhar and Sundargarh were both at 8°C. Ranital was at 8.6°C, and Dhenkanal was slightly warmer at 8.9°C.
Bolangir’s temperature was 9°C, while the capital city Bhubaneswar was at 9.4°C. While Balasore was just a notch above at 9.5°C, Cuttack was at 9.6°C. Koraput and Rayagada were both at 9.6°C.
The cold wave is expected to persist, with temperatures likely to drop further by 2-4°C over the next three days. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe.
