Bhubaneswar: A massive 18-foot-long crocodile was spotted in the Mahanadi River near Jobra Bridge in Cuttack, causing panic among locals and commuters.

The reptile, looking like a gharial, was seen resting on a sand island about 100 meters away from the gate of Jobra barrage. People gathered on the bridge to catch a glimpse of the crocodile, while fishermen were left terrified, fearing for their safety.

The sighting has sparked concerns about public safety, with residents urging forest officials to take immediate action to capture the reptile. This isn’t an isolated incident, as crocodiles have frequently been spotted along the Mahanadi river stretch in the past.

Earlier a massive gharial was spotted near the sandbed beneath Madhusudan Setu over the Mahanadi River, drawing crowds.

Eyewitnesses said the gharial was first seen basking on a sandy patch along the riverbed. As news spread , hundreds of curious residents flocked to the bridge to catch a glimpse of the reptile.
