Bhubaneswar: A 72-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Sankhapur village under Bantala tehsil in the Angul Forest Division of Angul district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ichha Dehuri, a resident of Sankhapur village.
According to reports, Dehuri had gone behind her house for defecation early in the morning when a wild elephant attacked her. The animal reportedly dragged and trampled her, causing critical injuries.
Family members immediately rushed her to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
With this incident, the death toll due to elephant attacks in the Angul Forest Division has risen to three in the last 14 days, raising concerns over increasing human–elephant conflict in the region.
