Puri: A woman died at Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Monday, two days after undergoing a C-section, prompting her family to allege medical negligence.
The deceased has been identified as Rosalin Parida, a resident of Damodarpur village in Kanas Tehsil. She had a C-section on January 10 after doctors reportedly detected low amniotic fluid.
According to her father, Gangadhar Parida, she was initially stable after the surgery but her condition worsened on Monday morning.
“When I reached the hospital, no treatment had been started. The staff even asked me to sign a blank paper stating that my daughter’s condition was serious, which I refused. Now, I want justice,” he said.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Akshaya Satapathy described the incident as “unfortunate.” He said Rosalin had previously delivered one child, who is alive, and had experienced three miscarriages.
“She was stable after the C-section and kept under observation. On Monday, she was transferred to the ward. Preliminary reports suggest she fell while sitting on the bed and may have suffered a heart attack, which led to her death. A detailed investigation will be conducted,” he added.
The family expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital’s handling of the case and demanded a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Rosalin Parida’s death.
