Puri: In a pre-Sankranti crackdown, Puri police on Tuesday seized 148 spools of nylon manja from 22 shops across the town to prevent injuries during the upcoming kite-flying festival.
Police stepped up vigilance in popular kite-flying zones, including Bada Danda (Grand Road), the sea beach, Baliapanda, Mangalaghata, and Talabania, following reports of visitors being injured by hazardous nylon threads.
Under the direction of Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh, IICs from all nine police stations conducted targeted raids in their respective areas. During the operation, 148 spools of nylon manja were confiscated from shops, and 24 kites were seized from individuals flying them in public spaces.
DSP Prashant Kumar Sahoo said that minors caught using nylon manja were counseled, while adults faced legal action.
“A special awareness vehicle has been deployed across the town, and all PCR vans have been instructed to educate residents about the dangers of nylon manja. These raids will continue in the coming days to ensure public safety,” said DSP Sahoo.
