Bhubaneswar: The newly formed Rairangpur Police District in Odisha is now officially operational, marking a significant development in the state’s law enforcement landscape. This comes months after the state government announced its creation, carving it out of Mayurbhanj District.
The Government of Odisha has officially notified the creation of the new Rairangpur Police District, carved out of Mayurbhanj District.
Following this, the existing posts in Mayurbhanj District, along with newly created posts, have been redistributed between Mayurbhanj and Rairangpur Police Districts, effective immediately.
According to reports, Rairangpur Police District has 12 blocks divided into 2 subdivisions, with 14 police stations, 5 police outposts, and 2 police beats. The district is celebrating its inauguration along with the Makar festival. Locals have thanked the state governments for creating the new police district, saying it will boost security and services.
As per reports, a Superintendent of Police (SP) is likely to be appointed soon for Rairangpur Police District. The DIG reviewed preparations for the SP’s office two months ago, inspecting key facilities including the SDPO office, proposed SP office, and residential quarters. The move is possibly linked to President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Rairangpur next month. Appointing an SP before her arrival would ensure smooth security arrangements.
