Bhubaneswar: Rituals at Lord Lingaraj temple have resumed normally after a dispute between Badu Nijog and Suara Nijog servitors was resolved.
According to reports, no rituals were conducted at the Lingaraj Temple since the Sandhya Dhupa on Tuesday due to a dispute between two servitor groups. As a result, the presiding deity remained fasting since Tuesday evening, and even Makara Sankranti rituals couldn’t be performed on Wednesday.
The dispute arose over who would perform the Kheera Aauta ritual, , a key offering during Makara Sankranti, with both groups claiming rights. The issue was finally resolved, and rituals resumed on Thursday morning, with Mangala Alati and Dhadi Darshan underway.
On the other hand, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh expressed concern over the halting of rituals of the presiding deity at Lord Lingaraj temple, warning of strict action against the responsible servitors.
He called the incident ‘highly unfortunate’, stating that halting temple rituals had hurt the religious sentiments of devotees.
Singh emphasized that servitors are meant to perform rituals, not to take decision on rituals. He made it clear that those who halted the rituals shouldn’t continue temple service. The MLA urged servitors to respect traditions and safeguard devotees’ emotions.
