Sundargarh: Sundargarh town is slowly returning to normalcy after two days of tension following a violent clash between two groups in the Regent Market area over a rumour related to beef possession.

Meanwhile, police arrested six persons from both sides and produced them in court. The police are continuing their search for other suspects, and patrols are being conducted to maintain law and order.

According to reports, shops and markets have reopened, and schools and colleges are functioning as usual. Besides, vehicle movement is also back to normal. Internet services have been restored and all prohibitory restrictions lifted in Sundargarh town on Friday following a review of the law-and-order situation by the district administration. The prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were withdrawn after a peace committee meeting.

The town is quiet, with just a handful of people out. Police are on high alert, tracking down and arresting those involved in the violence.

Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirmal Mohapatra stated that “As many as six persons have been arrested on basis of evidence and produced in court. Besides, efforts are on to identify others responsible for the law and order situation in Sundargarh. As per law, action will be taken against them. The situation is now normal, and we’re closely monitoring it. We urge the people of Sundargarh to remain calm.”
