Jeypore: The Jeypore Town Police on Monday arrested two persons and seized brown sugar during a raid conducted in connection with an alleged drug transaction in the town.
The raid was carried out in the Christianpeta area of Jeypore, near Beeriana Padia, after the police received specific information about illegal brown sugar dealings in the locality.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sanjib Kumar Nayak (40) of Christianpeta and Khagen Tanti (19) of Irrigation Colony. During the operation, the police recovered 2 grams and 830 milligrams of brown sugar, which was packed in 30 small packets, from their possession.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team from Jeypore Town Police Station reached the spot and apprehended the duo red-handed during the transaction. The seized contraband was taken into custody as evidence.
Confirming the development, Jeypore Town Police Station In-Charge Ullas Chandra Raut said that the brown sugar was recovered from the two accused and further investigation is underway to ascertain their involvement in drug peddling and possible links to a wider network.
A case has been registered, and the accused are being produced before the court as per legal procedure.
